The Leshan Giant Buddha is a Buddhist stone sculpture made in the Tang Dynasty.



It is located to the east of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, at the confluence of three rivers, namely, Min River, Qingyi River and Dadu River. It is craved into the cliffs of Mt. Lingyun.



The 71 meter-tall statue of the laughing Buddha is in a sitting posture, his shoulders are 24 meters wide.



His head is 14.7 meters long and 10 meters broad; His dropping ear is 6.7 meters long ; and each eye is 3.3 meterswide ; His neck is 3 meters long; and the instep of his foot is 9 meters wide.



It is the biggest stone carving statue Buddha in the world. It occupies the entire hillside, and a local saying describes the Buddha like this: “ The mountain unveils a Buddha, while the Buddha fades into the mountain”.
